HD Supply celebrates 25 years of business
HD Supply Repair & Remodel, a home improvement and building materials supplier, recently celebrated its 25th year of serving the small contractor, tradesmen and do-it-yourself customer.
The company is based in Sacramento and has 10 stores throughout the state, including one in Ventura at 2625 Johnson Drive.
The business began with Contractors' Warehouse — founded by President Rich Fiechter — who opened the first operation in Ventura in 1983.
Within the next 10 years, Contractors' Warehouse added seven sites.
In 2005, Home Depot purchased Contractor's Warehouse from its former parent, Jeld-Wen Inc. All the stores were renamed to HD Supply Repair & Remodel.
Today, the business is owned by Bain Capital Partners, The Carlyle Group and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.
MOORPARK
Students present checks to charities
A joint project between California Lutheran University students and Moorpark fifth-graders culminated May 5 with the students presenting donations to charities that are important to them.
Ten CLU liberal studies students worked with 62 fifth-graders at Flory Academy of Sciences & Technology in Moorpark as the children researched and wrote reports about local and international charities.
Through a philanthropic organization called Charity Checks, money was donated for the students to distribute with their own checks. CLU math instructor Victor Dorff and his wife, Lisa Sonne, founded the charitable literacy program. It has been used in classrooms throughout the country since 1999.
During the ceremony, each young philanthropist wrote a $25 check to his or her charity. Representatives of some of the 55 chosen charities, including Casa Pacifica and the Children's Hunger Fund, were in attendance.
