More from Camarillo
Is there a poet hiding inside of you? Do sonnets stir your heart? Is rhyming or not rhyming a point of discussion? Then, there's a poetry contest being held in Ventura County that's just right for you.
The Women's Artistic Network (WAN) is holding a poetry contest and everyone is eligible to enter. Entries must be original, unpublished, not currently submitted somewhere else, and have received no prior awards.
The poem may be up to 50 lines of free verse or traditional, single or double-spaced, with one poem per page. For a complete list of rules, please contact Carol Doering, WAN president, (805) 493-1081 or by e-mail at cedoering1@verizon.net.
So, what should one write about for a contest? Well, that depends on the writer. What makes you happy - or sad? What is beautiful or ugly? What do you want to say to the world? Write about anything that stirs you to put words on a page and submit it.
The deadline for entries is September 30, 2008,and the submission fee is $5 per poem or $10 for three poems. Prizes will be awarded of $75 for first place, $50 for second, and $25 for third. Writers retain all rights to their work.
So, today, before you forget, contact Doering for details.
