Goldwater will discuss his new book at library

Former U.S. Rep. Barry M. Goldwater Jr., R-Calif., son of the late Sen. Barry Goldwater, will discuss his new book, "Pure Goldwater," at 7 p.m. Friday at the Moorpark City Library.

A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow.

The senior Goldwater was a firebrand politician associated with an optimistic brand of conservatism. For more than 50 years, he kept a private journal, recording his reflections on his political and personal life.

Goldwater Jr., along with co-author John Dean, combine analysis with Goldwater's own words for the book. They use their access to his correspondence, interviews and behind-the-scenes conversations to shed new light on the senator.

The library is at 799 Moorpark Ave. The event is free.
