Film studio to be built in Moorpark
Commonwealth Studios is planning to build an independent filming complex on a 37-acre site in Moorpark.
The $125 million facility is slated to break ground in April 2009, and is expected for completion in 2011.
The property is borderd by Southern Pacific Railroad, Southern California Edison power station and W. Los Angeles Avenue.
The movie studio will feature 14 soundstages, from 9,600 square feet to 20,000 square feet, according to media reports. There will be an outside set that will be plumbed for rain and fire effects.
Plans include office buildings, commissary, health club, conference center, pool and spa and screening theatre.
The studio will match the size of CBS Studio Center in Studio City, and will be the largest new studio to be built in California since the 1930s, according to the company.
The studio will be developed by Triliad Development Inc. of Thousand Oaks. The architect is Poliquin Kellogg Design Group in Woodland Hills. The general contractor is Oltmans Construction Co.

Lots of jobs, just think of the swanky restaurants that will have to be local, limos, catering businesses, possibly closer nicer hotels, etc. Does that mean the paps will be all around Moorpark?

I am surprised that Fillmore, the film friendly town, didn't attract this studio. I guess they missed the train...

Tell me aint so..
Moorpark HATES trucks but yet they are going to have a movie studio that will have 100's, yes 100's or trucks roaming around town. HAHA wait 'til the city councel figures out what they got themselves into on this one...
Actually I'm glad, it will create lots of jobs, business will boom around Moorpark & our county will have lots of nice tax money from it all.

I wish them well..
There has been a few film related companies in the area that just couldn't survive. There wasn't enough work out here to keep the doors open. One such company was Bouquet multimedia in the Pt. Mugu area. They had equipment rental, sound stages, model fab, post production service etc., but didn't get many contacts.
I also heard that those in the industry don't like to travel too far from the peripheral businesses.
I just hope the investors have done their homework...

Another benefit to the citizens of East Ventura County! Warehouse Discount Center (WDC) is also a fantastic company with a large facility that has opened in Moorpark; creating new jobs and providing excellent products and services that we can all use... (Major Home Appliances) Lucky for us they are open to the public! Let's not forget about the Ronald Reagan Library either...
