Francona to miss two games after mother-in-law's death
Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona left the team and will miss the first two games of his team's series at Baltimore following the death of his mother-in-law.
Mary Ann Lang, mother of Francona's wife, Jacque, died Monday night in Tucson, Ariz. Francona and his family traveled to Tucson on Tuesday.
Bench coach Brad Mills ran the Red Sox in Francona's absence.
Rodriguez aims to rejoin Yankees next week: Injured Alex Rodriguez is hoping to rejoin the New York Yankees early next week.
"We're aiming for Tuesday at home," Rodriguez said after working out at the team's minor league complex. "You've got to be smart, so it's a good way to go."
The All-Star third baseman is on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quadriceps. He hasn't played since April 28 and is eligible to come off the DL Thursday.
Rangers' Bradley out with a sore shoulder: Designated hitter Milton Bradley was out of the Texas Rangers' starting lineup against the Seattle Mariners because of a sore right shoulder.
Bradley was removed in the seventh inning of Monday night's game against the Mariners. Manager Ron Washington said Bradley would also sit out today's game against Seattle.
Fisk returns to White Sox as ambassador: Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk is returning to the Chicago White Sox as a team ambassador.
Fisk played for both the Boston Red Sox and White Sox. He is going to be honored during "Welcome Back Carlton Fisk Night" on May 22 at U.S. Cellular Field, the White Sox said.
During 13 seasons with Chicago, Fisk hit .257 with 214 homers and 762 RBIs. An 11-time All-Star and the 1972 AL Rookie of the Year with Boston, Fisk holds the major league record for games caught (2,226) and ranks second in home runs by a catcher (351). The White Sox retired his No. 72 in 1997 and unveiled a sculpture in his honor in 2005.
