Morning Report: 1/4 acre fire in Ventura barranca extinguished
Police and Fire: Ventura firefighters early this morning extinguished a small brush fire near Ventura Community Park, authorities said.
The fire was reported in the Harmon Barranca at Eisenhower Street in Ventura at 3:17 a.m., according to a prepared statement from the Ventura City Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found about one-quarter of an acre of brush and Eucalyptus trees burning on the west side of the barranca. They contained the fire within 40 minutes, and stayed on scene mopping up until after 5 a.m., according to the statement.
No injuries were reported and no homes were threatened by the blaze, which began as an unattended campfire at an illegal campsite, the fire department reported.

A man was robbed in Fillmore last night by two men who blocked his car with another vehicle, authorities said.
The 23-year-old victim was sitting in his car near the intersection of Fourth Street and B Street in Fillmore about 7:30 p.m. when two men in a truck parked in front of him, blocking him from driving away, said Capt. Patti Salas of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
One robber got out of the truck and punched the victim in the head, while the other went into the car through the passenger door and took his wallet, Salas said.
The victim reported the crime several hours later.

It is disturbing that transients/homeless are apparently camping in a barranca that close to the park, even though Eisenhower St. is on the North, or opposite, side of the 126 from the park. My concern is that children play nearby ... and fugitives, including sexual predators, sometimes join the homeless in an attempt to disappear from the radar or when unable to find a residence following release from prison on parole.
