Westlake council may award funds to beautify homes
The Westlake Village City Council on Wednesday plans to consider awarding $88,850 to three homeowner associations for beautification projects.
If the council approves the recommendations from its Environmental Committee, the money will come from the City/Neighborhood Beautification Program, which has a budget of $75,000.
If the council approves all three grants as recommended, it would need to find an additional $13,850.
The beautification program, which began in 2003, sent applications to homeowner associations in November offering to pay half the cost of projects.
"It is a ... unique city-neighborhood collaboration," said John Knipe, city engineer. "The city uses its funds to encourage the enhancement of local community and publicly seen rights of way."
The city received applications by the Feb. 29 deadline from the Westlake Cove, Westlake Pointe and WestPark homeowner associations, according to a report to the council.
Westlake Cove requested $28,100, which is about half the $56,300 cost for work to renovate its front entry on Lindero Canyon Road. The project would include new landscape areas, irrigation and the addition of a stone facade to existing walls.
Westlake Pointe is seeking $18,000, about half the cost of landscaping during an overhaul of the community's two entries along Ridgeford Drive.
WestPark applied for $42,750 for a project to landscape the front of the association's property along Agoura and Lindero Canyon roads.
The committee said the work would "complement and extend the landscape work recently completed by the city in this area."
The WestPark project would include new lighting at the entries, more landscaped areas and trees, improved irrigation systems and walkways into the development.

Westlake city council has too much money to burn. How about lights around the lake so runners, walkers can see at night.. or better yet how about a side walk on the lake side down Westlake blvd, now that would be helpful and improve safty.. but propably not, maybe a few more benches will crop up in such wonderful spots!!
