OJAI VALLEY MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS
The Oak View Civic Council will play a major role in the Ojai Valley Memorial Day celebration to be held on Monday, May 26, 2008. The Oak View American Legion Post #686 is preparing a pancake breakfast from 8:00 AM 10:00 AM at its Post, 475 Old Ventura Avenue. Come meet your neighbors and have a great breakfast as well. A flyover, weather permitting, is planned for the morning hours as well. Also in the morning, Al Westcott, a local musician, will be singing an original song titled Soldiers, Sailors and Tired Old Men.
The home town atmosphere will be evident when the Oak View Parade kicks off at 9:45 AM. It starts at Park Avenue (just behind Curves), turns onto Old Ventura Avenue and goes to E. Oak View Avenue. (Registration begins at 8:00 AM at the New Hope Christian Center). In addition to the awards, a Memorial Day service will take place at the conclusion of the parade, at approximately 10:15, in front of Longhorn Supply, also located on Old Ventura Avenue.
Parade applications were due by May 19 in order to allow time to set up the parade. Those entering will be judged in one of four categories: (1) float, musical, vehicle; (2) horses; (3) marching or walking; and (4) other.
For parade information: contact Kim Armstrong @ 640-0727 or check the website, at www.oakviewca.org/Activities.
After the parade, visit Libbey Park in Ojai, as the Ojai Valley VFW host additional events from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
All residents of the Ojai Valley are encouraged to support these free events and to remember those who fought for our freedom.
