Parolee arrested after standoff with police

A 35-year-old Santa Paula man was being held Sunday with no bail at the Ventura County Jail on charges of parole violation after evading Santa Paula police. Nick Garcia was arrested after fleeing from an officer and barricading himself inside a home Saturday night.

An officer from the Santa Paula Police Department was on patrol when he said he saw Garcia in the 600 block of East Main Street. Authorities were looking for Garcia, who's suspected of violating conditions of his parole, the police department said.

The officer said Garcia took off on foot when he attempted to contact him, running into a nearby residence and locking the doors. Police said that about 15 minutes later they sent a police dog into the home. Garcia quickly surrendered and was arrested.

I will have to get back to you on Nick Garcia's history because the Superior Court web site is down at the moment and the Sheriff's site only lists him as a "Parolee in holding."

I'm willing to bet he has quite the colorful history though!

WOW!!! Nick's sure got one LONG rap sheet!

From 1998 to the present, Mr. Garcia had:

Several under the influence and possession citations, multiple unlicensed driver citations, multiple failure to appear, multiple driving w/o auto insurance, driving without headlights, failure to stop at a stop sign, petty theft/conspiracy to commit a crime, and burglary...

So take your pick, he could be on parole for any number of those....

Sounds like a real loser...put him to work cleaning up the freeway, graffiti, and horse stalls. Have him do SOMETHING productive though because while I'd prefer he NEVER get out again, it also bothers me that my taxes will be paying for him to sit around all day and lift weights, play basketball, and have little "soirees" with other men.

the only things i see on there that would actually send him to state prison (a requirement for parole, as opposed to probation) are the conspiracy and burglary charges. every thing else looks like misdeameanors and "prop 36" stuff.

i'm writing about his prior history, what would have caused his parolee status; however, resisting arrest (148(a) PC) is a misdemeanor. it doesn't note if the "evading" was done in a vehicle or not. if on foot, it's still part of the 148 charge. if in a vehicle, it can be a misdemeanor or felony, dependent on recklessness, bodily injury, etc.

the new charges are enough to send him BACK to prison, even if only misemeanors, as they violate his "conditional release", one of the conditions being "obey all laws".

Dumb and dumber just wanted to go back to prison where life is obviously good for him. He'll get violated and catch the bus. I have several clients who will be riding along on the bus with him. They wanted to go back. Go figure.
