Nearly 600 guests helped make dreams come true by attending the eighth annual Oaks Christian School Dinner Auction, One Child, One Dream, held on Saturday, May 3 at the Four Seasons Westlake. The event raised money for the school's financial aid program, this year yielding over $700,000 thanks to the generosity of attendees, parents, friends, and community donors. The auction theme, décor and menu were selected to tie in with the upcoming Summer Olympics (One World, One Dream) in Beijing. Present were former local Olympians Audley Harrison , Julianne McNamara, Francis Owusu, and Terry Schroeder. Television personality Chris Harrison, host of ABC Television's The Bachelor, Designer's Challenge, and Hollywood 411, emceed the event for the second year.

Also present were actors Jane Seymour and her husband James Keach. Jane helped auction off a Malti-Poo puppy during the live auction, even while instructing her husband from stage to put in their own bid. KNBC sports personality Fred Roggin hosted an "Up Close and Personal" video presentation featuring three Oaks Christian students who are outstanding in academics, athletics, community service, and the arts. A professional jazz harp ensemble and an acrobat entertained guests upon entering the ballroom, and several students performed vocal, instrumental and dance numbers during the evening, to the delight of guests.

Two couples were recognized as Philanthropists of the Year for their extraordinary service and dedication to the school. This year's recipients were Bill and Bev Dallas, and Mark and Michelle Hiepler.

The silent auction featured more than 500 items, including a diamond necklace presented by Dejaun Jewelers and valued at $34,900. The live auction enticed guests with a luxurious, five-star vacation trip to Fiji; a U2 signed guitar; a Robb Report Car of the Year event in Napa Valley; an opportunity to be a ball boy at a Lakers game; a Red Carpet experience with actor Will Smith at the opening of his upcoming movie; a highly sought-after chance for a student to be Middle School Principal-for-a-Day; and a coveted Reserved Parking Space for a Year at the school.

In order to maintain a diverse student population, Oaks Christian School offers financial aid to over 35% of its families who would not otherwise be able to attend. Now in its eighth year, Oaks Christian is a private, independent school serving children in grades 6-12. For further information about the school go to www.oakschristian.org or call 818-575-9900.
