County Web site promotes recycling

Ventura County is promoting reuse, recycling and waste reduction at its Web site, http://www.VCMAX.org.

Residents can tour the site and its online reuse warehouse. Site-users can place wanted or available reuse ads. Everything on the site is free or reasonably priced.

For five years Ventura County Materials Exchange was a catalog-based reuse program.

To reduce expenses it was converted to a Web site in 2006.

The site also provides links for people to find hazardous waste and electronic waste collection events and other sites where people can donate old tools and equipment.

The program was designed to reduce the needless disposal of viable, reusable materials and assist the county's efforts to meet California's 50 percent recycling goal.
