Newbury Park reaches final
The Newbury Park Prowlers defeated the Thousand Oaks Knights, 4-3, in the first CIF semifinal matchup on Tuesday. Later in the night in the second semifinal, Agoura defeated Westlake, 8-2.
Newbury Park notched a spot in the final despite an outstanding effort by Thousand Oaks goalie, Kevin Miyamoto. In the first semifinal, Newbury Park trailed by a goal, 3-2, with seven minutes remaining. The game was knotted up on an unassisted goal by Newbury Park midfielder, Mark Wood. It was Wood's second goal of the game. The game-winning goal was scored in the last two minutes by mid-fielder DJ Moosekian with an assist from Justin Roberts. Thousand Oaks three goals were scored by Dustin Marvin, Clay Venetis and Dustin Fante.
In the second semifinal, Agoura rolled against Westlake in a matchup that featured a tremendous offensive effort by two of the league's top goal scorers, Mike Cammorata and Chris Hogg, who finished the game with three goals each. The first half remained tightly contested primarily based on the strength of outstanding goalie play by Westlake's Alec Farrell.

Puerling, Hanson earn honors
North Dakota junior Nicole Puerling (Camarillo High) was named to the Daktronics Division II All-North Central Region Softball team.
First baseman Puerling was a second-team selection for the first time. Puerling tied a school record with 13 homers. She played in all 53 games, with a career-high .344 batting average and set a school record for 49 RBIs and 23 walks in a season.

Kaufman stars for Monterey Bay
Casey Kaufman, a graduate of Agoura High, enjoyed a successful freshman season with the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team.
Kaufman was Agoura's MVP and a first-team All-Marmonte League selection her senior year and played five years in 18 Gold Junior Olympic softball.
Casey was Monterey Bay's leadoff batter and starting center fielder this past season, leading the team in stolen bases with 84.6 percent success and was second on the team in runs scored, triples and sacrifices. She was third on the team in hits and had an on-base percentage of .380. She placed in four league leader categories as well: stolen bases (second), sacrifice flies (fifth), at-bats (sixth) and total plate appearances (11th).

Vinyard signs with Cal State L.A.
Royal High's Mike Vinyard has signed a national letter of intent with the Cal State Los Angeles baseball team.
Vinyard, who plays catcher, second base and left field, was the MVP of the 2007 Southern California Reds Scout team and was named to the all-state second team.
Vinyard was was also a member of The Star's 2007 All-County first team, an All-CIF second-team selection and a first-team pick for the All-Marmonte League team.
