Assistant public defender selected
Attorney Steve Paul Lipson has been named to the No. 2 spot in the Ventura County Public Defender's Office.
Public Defender Duane Dammeyer announced Friday that Lipson has been selected for the position of assistant public defender from a pool of 13 applicants.
"He is well-respected in the office and will do a great job," Dammeyer said
Lipson, a Ventura resident, said, "I am excited, and I think it's an honor."
He said he is going to meet with Dammeyer, office supervisors and other staff to find out if there are ways to improve the legal services they provide to low-income clients.
When Public Defender Kenneth Clayman retired in March, Dammeyer, then the assistant public defender, was promoted to the top position.
Lipson has worked in the Public Defender's Office for 21 years.
Lipson, who grew up in Long Beach, got his bachelor's degree from UC Santa Barbara. He graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in Eugene and was admitted to the California Bar Association in 1984.
