VC faces top seed Santa Ana
The Ventura College baseball team opens its best-of-three Southern California regional playoff series at top-seeded Santa Ana today at 3 p.m.
No. 16 Ventura won its first home playoff game in more than 50 years Tuesday, 12-5, over No. 17 Rio Hondo.
The Dons (32-11), who earned the No. 1 seed for the second straight season, swept Ventura out of the playoffs in 2006.
Santa Ana coach Don Sneddon is California Community College's winningest baseball coach and has guided the Dons to three state titles.
Freshman Blair Walters (3-1), an Oak Park High product, will start today's Game 1 for the Pirates.
Ventura coach Don Adams will save freshmen Garrett Rau and Zach Thornton, who finished the season ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in the state in ERA, for Saturday's potential doubleheader.
