Smalling takes top spot in 200 free qualifying
LONG BEACH — Westlake High's Aislinn Smalling was the top qualifier in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 51.42 seconds) at the CIF-Southern Section Division II Prelims on Thursday at the Belmont Plaza Pool.
Smalling was No. 2 in the 500 freestyle (4:57.62).
Thousand Oaks' Camille Duckett finished second in the 100 freestyle (52.19).
Westlake's Jackie Brousseau was second in the 50 freestyle (23.64).
Westlake was the winner of the 200 freestyle relay in 1:39.17. Smalling, Irus Yan, Marissa DeWames and Brousseau are the team members. Westlake was tops in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:35.42. Brousseau, Nora Darago, DeWames and Smalling are the swimmers.
Thousand Oaks qualified third in the 200 freestyle relay with Duckett, Lauren Barnett, Dusty Holmes and Henley turning in a time of 1:39.95.
Thousand Oaks was fifth in the 400 freestyle relay at 3:41.12. Henley, Barnett, Holmes and Duckett are the team members. Shannyn Hultin was seventh in the 200 IM (2:09.47) and Alex Henley of Thousand Oaks was eighth (2:09.84). Westlake's Meagan Norling-Christensen was 16th in 2:15.75.
Westlake's Marisa DeWames was 15th in the 50 freestyle (25.01). DeWames was 16th in the 100 freestyle (54.34).
Agoura's Casey Flacks was 13th in the 500 freestyle (5:12.72) and Deanna Pickman of Calabasas was 16th (5:15.36).
Henley was the sixth in the 100 butterfly (57.61) and Hultin was 11th (59.63).
Moorpark's Michael Lorch will swim in the 200 freestyle consolation finals after a ninth-place finish (1:44.42). Lorch was also ninth in the 100 butterfly (52.60).
The Thousand Oaks boys made the consolation finals in the 200 medley relay (1:42.11, 13th and placed 15th in the 200 freestyle relay).
Zach Condon of Newbury Park was 15th in the 200 IM (2:02.50).
Tyler Henry of Thousand Oaks was 11th in the 500 freestyle (4:45.57).
