Henin upset at German Open
Top-ranked Justine Henin was upset by Dinara Safina 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 Thursday in the third round of the German Open at Berlin, derailing efforts to regain form ahead of the French Open.
Serena Williams breezed to her 17th straight win, ousting Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals.
Roddick, Blake advance: Americans Andy Roddick and James Blake advanced to the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters.
Roddick took a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Simone Bolelli of Italy, and Blake rallied past Fernando Verdasco of Spain 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.
Top-ranked Roger Federer defeated Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (4), 6-3.
HORSE RACING
Jockey Club creates safety committee
The Jockey Club has formed a committee to study equine health, including track safety and the rules of racing, five days after the death of the filly Eight Belles at the Kentucky Derby.
Ogden Mills Phipps, chairman of The Jockey Club, said the committee would be asked to review every facet of equine health, ranging from breeding practices to medication, and to recommend actions to be taken by the horse industry to improve the health and safety of thoroughbreds.

AEG buys stake in Golden Boy
Anschutz Entertainment Group acquired a significant ownership stake in Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, creating a partnership between one of the world's largest sports conglomerates and the boxing superstar's burgeoning promotions company.
AEG, which owns or operates dozens of sports and entertainment venues including Los Angeles' Staples Center, becomes the second largest shareholder in Golden Boy behind De La Hoya.
Arm injury forces fight cancellation: Sugar Shane Mosley's fight with Zab Judah on May 31 was canceled after Judah seriously injured his arm in an accidental fall.
Judah severely cut his right forearm and needed 50 stitches to close the wounds, which will keep him out of training for four weeks.

McGinest to retire after 2008
Cleveland Browns linebacker Willie McGinest says the 2008 season will be his last.
"This will be it," he told SI.com. "This will be my 15th season. I've worked hard; I think I've done everything I set out to accomplish."
Vick ordered to pay Canadian bank: A federal judge ordered imprisoned quarterback Michael Vick to repay more than $2.4 million to a Canadian bank for defaulting on a loan.

Philadelphia Flyers All-Star defenseman Kimmo Timonen will likely miss the Eastern Conference finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins because of a blood clot in his left ankle.
SOCCER
Salt Lake coach suspended, fined
Real Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis was suspended one game and fined $1,000 by MLS for criticizing the league's officiating after a 2-2 tie at home against Los Angeles last Saturday.
