Attorney named new Assistant Public Defender
Attorney Steve Paul Lipson has been named to the number two spot at the Ventura County Public Defender's Office.
Public Defender Duane Dammeyer announced Friday that Lipson has been selected for the position of assistant public defender from a pool of 13 applicants.
"He is well respected in the office and will do a great job," Dammeyer said
Lipson, a Ventura resident, said: "I am excited, and I think it's an honor."
He said he is going to meet with Dammeyer and office supervisors to find out if there are ways to make the legal services they provide to low-income clients better. Lipson said he plans to get input from the staff on how to improve the legal services.
When Public Defender Kenneth Clayman retired in March, Dammeyer, then the assistant public defender, was selected to fill his position.
Lipson, who has worked at the Public Defender's Office for 21 years, said the office is well run and staffed with many good lawyers who provide quality legal services.
The 50-year-old Lipson, who grew up in Long Beach, got his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in Eugene, Ore.
He was admitted to the California Bar Association in 1984.
