It wasn't all roller coasters and roaring rapids for the Somis School band members who spent the day at Six Flags Magic Mountain on April 26th. The band performed at the Music in the Parks competition in the morning and attended the award ceremony at Magic Mountain in the evening. That left the whole day for the students to experience some of the fastest, tallest and wildest rides around.

Somis School has an outstanding music program under the direction of Mr. Scott Murphy, and students have been working very hard. The Beginning Band took home the 1st place trophy for best elementary school concert band at the Magic Mountain award presentation, and top honors for the best middle school concert band went to the Somis School Advanced Band. The trophies have already made their way into the new trophy case in the Somis School Cafeteria thanks to the generous donation by Ted and Marty Lapadakis.

Students in every grade level will be showcased at the upcoming Spring Concerts. The Beginning Band, Advanced Band and the Recorders will perform on Tuesday, May 27th at 6:30 p.m. The Kindergarten through 3rd grades, and the popular Marimba Band, will perform on Thursday, May 29th at 6:30.

Other worthwhile things going on at Somis School include Teacher Appreciation festivities all week, the Dance Team will perform for the School Board tonight at 6:30 p.m., Career Day will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m., the track team will compete in the Rotary Club Track Meet at Camarillo High School on Saturday, the Stage Dedication for the late Irene Woolman will take place on Friday, May 23rd at 10:30 a.m. and the Drama Class will perform "Sleeping Handsome" on Tuesday, June 3rd.
