Lottery for affordable housing opens in Moorpark
The Moorpark City Council unanimously approved Wednesday the opening of another affordable housing lottery for low-income residents and first-time homebuyers in the city.
It will be the city's fourth lottery since 2005 under the city's First Time Homebuyer Program. Nine families have been placed in new homes so far.
The lottery, which is scheduled for Aug. 20, is intended to identify qualified low-income buyers for 25 units in the 102-home Pardee Waverly Place development near Spring Road.
Through an agreement with the city, Pardee is offering to qualified buyers 12 three-bedroom units for $147,000 each and 13 four-bedroom units for $160,000.
On the open market, the condos start in the low $400,000s.
A lottery in October did not produce enough qualifying applicants for the condos.
Each applicant must make at least $42,850 and no more than $69,550 for a four-person household. The homebuyer is required to put down 5 percent, some reserves and closing costs. The lottery is open only to first-time homebuyers, and priority is given to Moorpark residents who have lived in the city for more than a year.
Attendance is mandatory at one of the informational workshops, which will be advertised by the city before the lottery date. For more information, call 517-6251.

So if I make 30,000 as a single person I don't qualify? I have to have 3 kids and more money?

This is ridiculous.... If you cant afford to live here then go somewhere else! I feel bad for the people who bought expensive homes in that area and have to live next to ghettoness. Award the lazy people who didnt go to school!

This makes me so sick. Why should someone be able to live in an area where everyone else has saved, gone to school, and done whatever to be able to live in a nice area?
Make better grades in school, don't buy cars and toys that you can't afford.
People do not respect what is given to them as a hand out.
That is all this is. I would never even buy in this area because of that fact.
Look in the paper, Palmdale has a lot to offer someone who can only afford $140-160K
