A school bus driver was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of molesting a 14-year-old Moorpark boy with autism, Ventura County sheriff's officials said.

Danny Ivy Floyd Jr., 39, of Moorpark was being held in the East County Jail with bail set at $250,000.

Floyd met the teen through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County, sheriff's Detective Eric Buschow said.

Floyd and the boy have known each other since November, when they were paired through the one-to-one mentoring program.

On Wednesday, Big Brothers Big Sisters board member Ron Bamieh, who is also serves as the organization's attorney, said the group has cooperated with law enforcement and will continue to do so.

"Our concern is for the child," Bamieh said. "We were shocked and greatly upset by first the allegations and now the arrest."

Bamieh, who also represents The Star, said Big Brothers does extensive background checks on potential volunteers including reviewing references. He said the last time a similar situation occurred was in 1993.

In the current case, the molestation allegedly occurred between March 1 and May 5, the detective said.

Floyd was taken into custody at his place of employment, Durham School Services in Thousand Oaks, police said.

He was arrested and booked on suspicion of continuous sexual abuse, oral copulation with a person under 16, sending harmful matter and committing a lewd act upon a child.

Floyd had allegedly committed a variety of lewd sex acts with the boy at the older man's home in Moorpark. The family of the boy went to police last week with the allegations.

A local official with Durham declined to comment and referred a reporter to another department of the company. A public relations spokesman for the Illinois-based company could not be reached after normal business hours in the Central time zone Wednesday.

Bamieh, a former little brother and big brother, said the allegations do not reflect the hundreds of volunteers and the work that the organization has accomplished.

"We stand firmly behind our goals," he said.

The boy did not ride on the bus that the suspect drove, and police did not say that they have evidence of improper contact between the suspect and anyone on the bus. However, investigators are looking into that, and police said anyone with information about other potential victims is asked to call Detective Anthony Aguirre at 371-8309.

Seems like they have some pretty good evidence with this guy. Sending harmful matter, I will assume through the computer? If so then they will find out just how guilty the guy is. We put these children in programs to help them out and then some jerk has to fail the whole thing. And the harm he put on this child we will never know. With this boys disease. He may not even remember everything let alone be able to talk about it. I hope a FULL investigation is done..........

if this guy truly is guilty of this heinous crime, just put a needle in his arm. this type of scum does not deserve to breath the same air as the rest of us.

IS HE DEAD YET??? Danny Ivy Floyd Jr I hope you dont get the death sentence that would be to good for you... There is no punishment I could think of that would satisfy me of your crime! Maybe a walk down main street and let people throw stones at you would be a good start. BTW I hope Bubba is your cell mate! You sick pig!

I guess a background check really doesn't mean anything. Especially if this kind of thing has happen before. No one but the Perv and the boy knows what really happened, and the boy has autism. All this in Moorpark!WoW! Isn't that one of the safest cities to live in? For the boys sake i hope this is not real. Yea Right. Castrate the blank if it is true.

this is a trully disturbing case of child molesting i have heard of in a while sick ! but dont worry everyone because in prison child molesters dont live very long in the general population and the guards cant watch him all the time !!!!

marvinepps - child molesters don't get placed in with the general population while in prison. They are put in PC (Protective Custody) with others just like them which is why they are around long enough to get released back into society.
