Boys and Girls Club gets approval for playground

Plans for a new playground next to the Boys & Girls Club at Southwest Community Park moved forward Tuesday, with the Oxnard City Council telling the club it can go ahead with the project.

The 2,500-square-foot playground, which is open to the public, is designed for 5- to 12-year-olds.

It will be paid for by the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme, which will build and maintain it.

The city retains the right to approve the design and equipment for the playground.

Also on Tuesday, the council approved the purchase of $570,497 in equipment for a new playground at Oxnard Beach Park, which does not have any kind of play structures for children.

The playground will be divided into two sections, one for 2- to 5-year-olds and the other for 5- to 12-year-olds.
