Rally planned against state spending plan

Santa Paula Latino Town Hall, in collaboration with other community organizations in the Santa Clara Valley, has announced plans to hold a rally Thursday to oppose Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's proposed funding levels for education and social services.

With the state facing a multibillion-dollar budget shortfall, the governor has proposed a budget plan that, according to a statement issued by Latino Town Hall, "unfairly penalizes children, senior citizens and other vulnerable sectors of the community for a budget deficit that is not of their making."

Organizers said the general public is invited to take part in the rally, scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Park, Ventura and Tenth streets.
