Professionals offering free 10-minute lessons
Local teaching professional around Ventura County are one again taking part in th PGA of America's annual free 10-minute lesson promotion.
The event gives golfers of all abilities the chance to get some free time with top teaching professionals who can provide valuable insight into improving your game.
For new golfers, the lesson provides a basic introduction to the game. For avid golfers, it's a chance to fine-tune your game.
To find the names of the local professionals who are involved with the program go to http://www.playgolfamerica.com and then click on the free lesson header on the left side of the page.
Among the local pros who are invovled are: Lee Martin at River Ridge, Carl Van Vallier at Olivas Links, Dan Martin at Rustic Canyon, and Michael Metz at Lost Canyons.
Last May, nearly 6,636 PGA professionals nationwide gave more than 115,500 free lessons
As part of the promotion, Nike will donate $1 to the Tiger Woods Foundation and will send golfers a Golf Digest Publications gift for every completed free lesson sweepstakes card received, up to 15,000 cards.
Jim Kelly tournament: Former NFL quarterback Jim Kelly will take part in the "Drive Fore Hope, CA" golf tournament on May 19 at Sterling hills Golf Course in Camarillo.
The tournament will benefit the Hunter's Hope Foundation, which Kelly started to help find a cure for Krabbe leukodystrophy, an inherited and fatal nervous system disease. Kelly's son, Hunter, died of the disease in 2005.
The event at Sterling Hills is being organized by the Scott family from Camarillo, whose daughter, Jacquelyn Michiko Scott, died of the disease. The goal of the foundation is to fund research efforts to identify new treatments, therapies, and a cure for Krabbe and other leukodystrophies. Through Hunter's Hope, over $15 million has been given to leukodystrophy and other neurological disease-related research.

Hole-in-one report: Jim McClandish made a hole in one on the 109-yard 11th hole at Buenaventura. McClandish used a pitching wedge to score his ace, which was witnessed by Ken Kulpaca and Gary Morrow.
Gary Lamm of Kent, Ark., scored his second career ace at Westlake's 90-yard ninth hole with a pitching wedge. Lamms' shot was witnessed by James Beauchemin.
