Class offered for landlords managers
The city of Port Hueneme is offering a free training class in Landlord/Property Management from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Port Hueneme Community Center.
The class is open to people who maintain rental property, including owners, managers, leasing agents and staff.
The training is part of the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program, which is designed to improve safe living environments.
Code compliance managers and police officers will conduct the all-day course.
Topics include applicant screening, premises liability, crime prevention through environmental design, decoding graffiti, and recognizing gang and narcotics activity.
"We've been doing this since 2006, and it's going really well," said Code Compliance Officer Kelly Self. "It's a voluntary program with the basis that crime is a community problem."
The program features three segments: training class; property inspection, with possible improvement recommendations; and a "safety social," similar to a Neighborhood Watch meeting.
Space is limited for the class, but seats are still available. For more information, call Self at 986-6573 or e-mail her at kself@ci.port-hueneme.ca.us.
