CAMARILLO UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WILL HOST CLASS ON REFORMATION
Leaders of the Reformation is a title of a new four-week class on the Protestant Reformation to be presented by Dr. Bill Garlington starting Monday, June 9, at 7 p.m. at the Camarillo United Methodist Church.
The class will open to the public free of charge and will be held in Howald Parlor.
I will be discussing how Martin Luther (1483-1546), Ulrich Zwingli (1484-1531), and John Calvin (1509-1564), among others, influenced the development of Christianity, Dr. Garlington said. This and similar questions will be the focal point of the class.
The Reformation was a 16th century movement to reform the Roman Catholic Church, which led to the establishment of a number of Protestant churches. Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin were major leaders of the movement.
Dr. Garlington received his doctorate in Asian Studies and Sociology from the Australian National University. He has taught comparative religion in both Australia and the United States, and is currently teaching in the OSHER program at Cal State University, Channel Islands. He is the author of The Bahai Faith and Universal Spiritual Truths. For information, please call the Camarillo United Methodist Church office at 805-482-4312 - or go on the web site, www.cam-umc.org.
