Five displaced by blaze
A family of five was displaced Monday night by a fire in a two-story condominium in Ventura, authorities said.
Two adults and three children got out of the condo safely when a smoke detector alerted them of the blaze, fire officials said.
The fire was reported at 9:07 p.m. in the 1300 block of Saratoga Avenue, officials said. Firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames in an upstairs bedroom when they arrived at 9:13 p.m. and had the blaze under control in seven minutes.
No injuries were reported, and the fire was confined to the bedroom.
The American Red Cross was called to provide the family with housing assistance, fire officials said. The cause of the fire was under investigation late Monday.

How terrible, if a candle did start it. I love candles but never leave them unattended or near anything they can ignite. I am glad everyone is safe & minimal damage was done.

Is it just me or has there been about 3 apt. fires in Ventura within the last 2 months or so? Too bad.

Odd there were no fires when the prices were higher.

you're thinking about friction fires, arnold. that's when you leave the mortgage too close to the insurance policy.

Thank you to the American Red Cross for assisting residents in their time of need. So often their constant presence and assitance goes overlooked and unappreciated!

This was so tragic, my sister's family (my sister, her daughter and 3 young children) just came out with the clothes on their backs...but in light of this incident, I saw the the genorosity and compassion of neighbors and strangers who provided blankets, offered their homes for shelter, food, diapers and most importantly they offered hugs, words of comfort, encouragement and hope during this tough time. I am thankful to all those have have helped my family. A special thanks goes out to the American Red Cross for providing basic essentials and the City of Ventura Fire Dept gathering memories that survived the flames. May god bless those who helped. Considering that they lost everything, all we care about that they came out of it ok.
The fire completely destroyed everything they owned. My family are in need of clothes, household items and other appropiate donations. For more information, please call (805)415-9437
