Agency to discuss review of High Street Arts Center
A 22-month performance review of the High Street Arts Center will be discussed Wednesday night during a meeting of the Moorpark Redevelopment Agency.
The review comes after a council ad hoc committee was formed to look closely at the operational model of the city-owned theater, which did not hit the revenue marks in the first 18 months of operation as a city theater.
When the city bought the theater in 2005, revenue projection was set to be about $136,600 in the first year with annual revenues to steadily increase. But the theater made a profit of only $87,000 in the first year, with second-year projections to be about the same, a staff report says.
The committee, made up of Councilman Mark Van Dam and Roseann Mikos, suggested several changes for the 2008-09 season, including new accounting controls, more community and business outreach, initiating a foundation to raise money for the theater, and also using the venue for events or meetings.
The Redevelopment Agency, which is made up of members of the City Council, is set to review the High Street Arts Center at 7 p.m. The meeting is at 799 Moorpark Ave.
