Gardenhire to miss Tigers series
Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire will miss the three-game weekend series against Detroit after his older brother died suddenly at his Oklahoma home.
Mike Gardenhire, 55, died on Thursday, prompting Ron Gardenhire to return to his home state to be with his family for the funeral.
The cause of death was not announced.
Reliever Turnbow cut by Brewers: Former All-Star closer Derrick Turnbow was cut by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Turnbow was 0-1 with a 15.63 ERA in eight games this season and gave up six runs in two-thirds of an inning at Chicago on Wednesday.
Also, Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo might need surgery after tearing a ligament in his right knee trying to avoid a collision near first base Thursday.
