Oxnard man, 41, injured in shooting

A 41-year-old man was injured this morning in a shooting in Oxnard, police said.

The victim, an Oxnard resident, was walking in an alley in the 1600 block of South Oxnard Boulevard about 8:10 a.m. when he heard gunshots and then found he was bleeding from both legs, according to a prepared statement from the Oxnard police department.

The shooting victim walked from the alley to a pay phone and called police.

He was then transported in an ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. Authorities expected him to be released from the hospital this morning.

Police are investigating the incident this morning. The shooting victim did not see who fired the shot.

From what I read, the shooting occurred near the strip joint, not inside. Is this correct?

Posted by rebel123 on March 27, 2008 at 10:06 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Call me old fashioned...."gentlemen" don't go to strip clubs.

Posted by slkrchck on March 27, 2008 at 10:15 a.m. (Suggest removal)

my husband is a gentleman and he's home with his family.
i guess we're old fashioned, too. and respectable, sophisticated, loving, hardworking. you get the idea. i think i like old fashioned.

Years ago they did call them gentlemen's club, but they were diffeant then, in that there was a lot more going on then just the stripers

"Gentlemen" go to strip bars all the time. They just don't take their wives.

This is a different story from the first one I read. This incident had nothing to do with Snookies.
Must have been a .22 calibre gun...or else he would have felt the bullets.

did they change the story...or is it just a given that this address is Snookies??

i agree rebel and slkrchck!! nowadays its a rarity to feel that way!!

I'm sorry. Some of the comments on her are hilarious. Never ceases to amaze me the things people think and write. So who the heck goes out at 8am on a rampage to shoot someone? WTF? Could he/she/they be alittle bored? Then again might it have been a ticked off wife/lover who was on the prowl because her man was found there? lol Who knows. The possibilities are endless. At least he's going to be ok.

805momma

The story was not changed. It originally stated the shooting occurred near Snookies, not inside. Now they have confirmed the shooting took place in the alley, behind Snookies.

Atleast he was able to get to a payphone and call for help.

I just e-mailed the reporter on this story - so it may get updated again soon.

From what we know at this time - it appears that this person was shot a block or two from Snookies - he says he walked to the pay phone at that location to call for help. This shooting has nothing to do with that bar. His wounds appear minor - he has either been released or is about to be released from the hospital.

We are continuing to investigate this incident - the victim said he didn't see anyone or know how he was shot. Nor do we have anyone else in the area reporting that they heard or saw anything. These things take time to sort out and we are careful not to speculate or jump to conclusions.

There is a process to these things - we'd rather be methodical and right with the facts of a case rather than quick and wrong.

I'm glad the guy is going to be ok. And I thank David Keith for doing his best always to keep the public as informed as possible. I also agree that it's a good idea for the police and the media not to speculate on what happened. Unfortunately I can't help myself from doing that very thing :). This story is just way too fishy - the fact that no one saw anything and the victim just mysteriously noticed that he'd been shot - in both legs, is odd. My 1st thought is that his injuries were the result of some sort of domestic dispute that he didn't want known. So, he went to a local payphone with a story. Sorry, I usually try to wait until all facts materialize until I form an opinion, but this one just seems weird to me.

snookies, they have the best cheeseburgers!!:)

He probably got shot by someone he knew. He was in trouble for something, and if he told on the shooter, well you know. Completely made-up story in my opinion... I like the Snookies subplot story in there though.

Posted by rollingcode on March 27, 2008 at 2:35 p.m. (Suggest removal)

A little insight...term "gentlemen's club" frequently is used as a euphemism for strip clubs.

Also, the shooting occured in Oxnard, why do we all surprised? Of the 352 cities in CA, and the worst from one to 352, Oxnard is at 215.

shaver_one: married gentlemen who find themselves in a strip club better be smart enough not to use their credit card for the night's entertainment unless he's looking to spend a few nights on the couch.

Snookies serves food ? GROSS

I live in that neighborhood and I didn't hear a thing like gunshots.

I know this guy that got shot, & thank god he is alright.
Now for everyone that had something to say about this story, well not really this story but about the location of this crime. Yes it did happen in an ally behind Oxnard Blvd. Almost 2 blocks away from SNOOKY'S.
For everyone that had something to say about SNOOKY'S, they couldn't even spell it right. They don't know anything about it, and most likely have never been there. Snooky's is a bikini bar. Not a strip club. Also Snooky's in Oxnard is best described as a beer bar, pool hall, and a place "Where Friends Meet". Despite what people say or think, SNOOKY'S is a great place to go and enjoy yourself. The ones that say or think different have obviously never been there. Everyone knows everyone, and everyone has a good time talking and laughing with each other, and the employees. No more, no less!!! For the people that think different go in and see for yourselfs. Im sure you will enjoy the experience.

Rabel123- are you speaking from experience????

missing805.....nope. would never be so dumb as to leave a trail of bread crumbs leading to a strip club. Excuse me....to a fun place where people gather for beer, burgers and to scope out bikini clad women. Hey, that sounds like the beach, doesn't it?

I'm a regular patron of Snooky's and it's no strip club. It's got a neighborhood bar atmosphere with a local regulars that includes a cast of characters, an afternoon crowd, an evening crowd and everything in-between. Oh ya - did I mention that there are bikini dancers? They tend to be very friendly as well as taken good care of by us regulars. Snooky's is always looking for new talent for those of you interested. What shooting, where?
