The West Coast Premier of Banjo Dance coming to OJai and Thousand Oaks

Performances To Grow On will present Rhythm In Shoes of Dayton Ohio in their West Coast premier of their newest work, "Banjo Dance", a celebration of the American spirit on Tuesday, April 8 at 7:30 pm at the Matilija Auditorium, 703 El Paseo Rd., Ojai and on Saturday, April 12 @ 7:00 pm at Scherr Forum Theatre, Thousand Oaks, 2100 E. thousand Oaks blvd, thousand Oaks.  Banjo Dance, is an evening-length tribute to the dance and music of the Southern Appalachian Mountains and includes: flatfooting, clawhammer banjo playing, fiddling, square dancing, sacred harp singing, story telling, honky-tonk songs, balladry, and clogging (both traditional and modern).  The performance features 6 dancers and five musicians. Terry Morris of the Dayton Daily News called the performance "energetic and effortless," writing that the, "captivating stories about life from the mountains to the factories of the North flowed through the ninety minute program."

Drawing on traditional forms of American music and dance-swing tunes and tap, hoedowns and clogging-the creative team of Leahy and Good has been creating critically acclaimed work for the past thirteen years. Rhythm In Shoes' performances are a seamless voyage of varied delights featuring traditional and original works full of wit and wisdom.
