Super Charger
Karen Quincy Loberg / Star staff Casey Flacks, who is still recuperating from a broken hand, capped her remarkable career at Agoura High by scoring 101 goals.
Agoura High's Casey Flacks ended her career just like it started — with a Marmonte League championship.
Flacks was the returning standout from the 2007 CIF-Southern Section Division II championship team. The Chargers were CIF finalists in 2006 and 2005.
Flacks, The Star's Girls' Water Polo Player of the Year, helped lead her team to a 48-0 record in her four-year starting role in the Marmonte League.
The Loyola Marymount-bound Flacks scored 101 goals, but missed the final two games of the season because of a broken hand. She had 59 assists, 84 steals, 30 turnovers and 65 drawn ejections.
"I broke my hand the Friday before the Ventura CIF game," said Flacks, who injured her hand when attempting to block a shot in practice.
She had to watch the game from the sidelines.
"I supported them from the bench, but it was hard," said Flacks,.
Teammate Casey Clark, a junior, got to watch all of Flacks' moves on offense and defense.
"She was a good leader," said Clark. "She pushed us and got us involved and made us feel important."
The Chargers continued their winning ways, playing one of the strongest schedules of any school in the region.
Agoura defeated Ventura in the first-round playoff game and also edged Ventura in a wild regular-season game.
"It was our first game together as a new team," said Flacks of the win over the area rival.
"We had a very good season, said Flacks. "We grew a lot as a team. We definitely developed and we hung in there playing top-level teams."
Agoura coach Jason Rosenthal wasn't sure if the Chargers could repeat as a league power.
"If we were overlooked, we stepped up to play," said Flacks.
Agoura was beaten in the quarterfinals by Laguna Beach, last season's finalist.
Credit the success of the program to Rosenthal.
"He pushes us hard," said Flacks. "We had a brand-new team and we were not that experienced."
"When it comes down to it, Casey is the best all-around player," said Rosenthal.
Flacks is back in the pool with a water-proof cast and aiming to swim in the CIF finals before she graduates.
"I enjoy swimming; I am hoping to make it in the 500 and 200 freestyle," she said.
In looking back to her favorite sport, Flacks said the career highlight was the CIF water polo championship. She enjoyed meeting a number of players and making friendships over the last four seasons.
"It was great to hang out with the team,' she said.
Flacks is leaving her legacy behind, but the Agoura program has a solid foundation for all the other Marmonte League teams to chase.
