Oxnard man arrested after police pursuit

An Oxnard man was arrested early this morning after he allegedly led police on a chase through a residential neighborhood and into a farm field, authorities said.

The chase began about 6:50 a.m. when a Port Hueneme police officer saw a car run a red light at the intersection of Wheelhouse Avenue and Channel Islands Boulevard, said Sgt. Rick Perez of the Port Hueneme Police Department. When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, it sped off into the Marina Village condominium complex.

The driver allegedly threw mail which police believe may have been stolen out of the car as he fled.

Police had to abandon the pursuit when the car drove out into heavy traffic on Victoria Avenue northbound, but they picked it up again when an officer spotted the driver running across Victoria Avenue into the farm field behind Oxnard High School, Perez said.

After a several minute-long foot-chase through the field, the man tried to escape by jumping onto the back of a moving tractor, Perez said. The tractor driver stopped after police yelled to him.

The suspect, Cesar de los Santos, then jumped off the tractor, Perez said. Port Hueneme and Oxnard police detained him shortly afterward.

De los Santos, 29, was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, reckless evading and several outstanding warrants, Perez said.

PogueMahone...I agree with you! That would have been great to see this idiot running away and jumping onto a tractor. He should have known the speed is not tremondously fast on a tractor. TRUE IDIOT!

I saw the car parked on Victoria this morning; two Oxnard PD cars were still there. Trust me, the tractor had to be nicer than his car!

Ah man! I wish I could of seen that! Like the guy driving the tractor was just gonna be like, "Ok, where you wanna go, train station, airport, John Deer dealership?"

a tractor... thats funny man. i agree that a video of this would be hilarious! i wonder what went through his head when the tractor stopped. he thought he was free and clear up until that point.

Seriously, how fast does a tractor go? 15 miles an hour tops?? Thats hilarious. This sounds like an episode of Reno 911. Come to think of it, they should do a show here in Oxnard. Oxnard 911, or Cholos 911

I think we should start keeping score of the surnames of the perps! I think its pretty obvious who's committing the most crimes in our county!

SF1943: Are you ignorant or do you seriously think that every persons surname defines their nationality??? Let me give you the example of the surnames of Brown, White, and Smith. Do you think these are primarily caucasion names?

In response to yur truly ignorant statement of "I think its pretty obvious who's committing the crimes in our country!" Well I can tell you who is committing the crimes in this country and that is the CRIMINALS, and guess what they are not gender, race, or religious specific..get a grip, and stop being ignorant, educate yourself!

I think your moniker says it all! I was raised in this county from 1943, were you? I don't think you have the experience here to make that statement about me! If you would take the time and tally the surnanames that commit these crimes, at least with what The Star reports, you wouldn't have the temerity to make your statement! Read up Pal!!

And if it was stolen mail which Im pretty sure it would have been, knowing the idiot.... That is a federal offense. Wake up Ceasar ! Geez your almost 30 and still getting into trouble !

Just kind of curious. How come everytime a subject is arrested and he is from Oxnard the headline is "Oxnard man arrested". But if the person arrested is from another city rarely is the suspect identified by his city of residence in the headline.
Once again another example of the anti-Oxnard Star Free Press

Great Job Cesar;

Another fine opportunity to hoist the mexican flag, or perhaps a new I'm from-- bumper sticker on your car. Why not just appreciate where you are lucky enough to live and obey the law.

Ole!!!
