Women's club raising money with fashion show
"Fashions on Parade" hits the runway Friday, April 18, to benefit the Westlake Women's Club charities.
Reservations are due for the 39th annual philanthropic luncheon, which will be at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza. Silent auction and boutique start at 10 a.m., followed by lunch at noon and the fashion show at 1 p.m.
"Of major importance to us and the community is our alliance with The Oaks, which produces our spring fashion show and obviously sees our event as the right activity to showcase their fashion stores," said Kay Baumbach, club representative.
Tickets, at $75 each, may be obtained from Ann Nelson, at 818-991-2790.
Proceeds from the fundraiser are earmarked for "worthy area causes," said Karen Oxrider, second vice president and event chairwoman. The nonprofit has cut checks for a variety of causes, including Conejo Valley Neighborhood for Learning, the Veterans Administration, area libraries and literacy programs, and youth scholarships and music programs.
The 99-member organization has two groups, one meeting monthly for a business luncheon and speaker; the other composed of working women who meet in the evening.
In addition to Fashions on Parade, the group's other two signature events are its Holiday Fantasy Tea Luncheon, along with the Summer Wine Down at the Westlake Yacht Club.
Established in 1968, the group includes three charter members, Shirley Chatterton, Dee Morrow and Helene Ross, Baumbach said.
