NPHS BOYS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL BEAT WESTLAKE

The Newbury Park Panthers Boys Volleyball took on the Westlake Warriors Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at their home court.

The Panthers came out strong in the first game, but ran up against a strong Westlake Middle-Blocker, who seemed to hit at will. The game turned in favor of the Panthers when Brady Johnson (00) shut the middle hitter down three consecutive ROOFs to send a message Not On My Net!  Then the Warriors tried to send the ball outside where Mickey Kelleher (15) DOMED the outside hitter which set the tempo for the Panthers. Trevor Willenberg (3) and Jonathan Ramirez (2) both had a great run with their serves - Ramirez (2) acing twice in a row catching the warriors by surprise to win the first two games.

The Newbury Park Panthers became too relaxed and allowed the Westlake Warriors to even-up the match to 2-2.

The 5th and final match became an exciting nail-biting event for both the players and fans. It started out competive and evenly matched.  When the game was on the line Newbury Park Panthers came together as a team to finish off the Warriors.  Colby Cameron (11) came up with some key serves, while Trevor Willenberg (3) had the most impressive save from what looked to be a dead ball to make it over the net on a free ball scoring on the Warriors.

Overall- Newbury Parks defense was the most improved part of their game.  Kevin Alvarez (8) & Jonathon Ramirez (2) really stepped-up - Alvarez finished with 34 digs.  The tandem of Trevor Willenberg (3) & Travis Zeller (16) put on an air show with their strength and determination of pounding the ball.  Willenberg finished with 21 kills and Zeller had 20.  Colby Cameron (11) had 42 assist.  Brady Johnson (00), and Mickey Kelleher (15) Stephen Santos (14) posted big blocks - Johnson posted 7 big blocks while Kelleher had 5 Santos had 2.

Panther Coach Jorge was ecstatic He said This was the 1st time the Panthers Varsity Team beat the Warriors in 10 Years.

Congrats to the Newbury Park Panther! The Panthers were able to even-up their season to 2-2.  GOOO PANTHERS!!!!
