Former treasurer of TO boosters club arrested on suspicion of grand theft
A Thousand Oaks man who served for several years as treasurer of the Thousand Oaks High School Football Boosters Club could face a charge of grand theft for allegedly embezzling thousands of dollars from the club, authorities said today.
Michael McCarley, 59, turned himself in at the Thousand Oaks sheriff's station March 12 following an investigation into allegations he stole about $31,000 from the boosters during the roughly 2 1/2 years he served as treasurer, sheriff's Detective Eric Buschow said. The investigation into the alleged theft began in November.
After he turned himself in, McCarley was arrested on suspicion of grand theft, Buschow said. He was released on $10,000 bail.

does someone have a chip on their shoulder...jeeez.
Anyways, actually commenting on the story at hand...this man should be ashamed of himself. This is just disgraceful. This will make fundraising for children just that much more difficult. I hope he is proud of himself and it was worth the $31k that he could have simply earned by working in 2.5 years.

Unfortunately, this looks like it is becoming the norm.

IF he was arrested over a week ago, why are they just now telling us. I am not blaming the Star, I just mean why now is it all coming out.

Shame on this person-This is disgraceful-Throw the book at him. Make him pay every penny back plus interest. How did he put up bail with the 31K? Now it makes me wonder what will happen to the $$ when I buy a candy bar or raffle tickets the next time a kid needs some $$ for his/her sport. Pretty sad. SHAME SHAME!!!!!!

I'm with you Noah....The Star staff is extremely arbitrary! Take your chances if you disagree with them. Remember, they have the temerity to list their editorials as "Breaking News"! YIKES!!

This guy stole a lot more than $31k. A parent meeting was held this week, and the debt is over $50K. This guy needs to go away for a long time. I hope that the police/D.A will find out what he really stole from the kids. I'm sure that safeguards will be placed to keep this from ever happening again.

With the economy in the tank, look for some weak people to start stealing to survive.

It is sad. I have spend hundreds of hours working at my childrens schools. It makes me so sad to think that now people are going to question us. The sad thing is compared to the number of children in our school systems, there is a small number of parents that do take the time to help. It seems to be the same people over and over helping. When something like this happens it only makes the few parent that do help have to work even harder. I really hope T.O. gets there money back. A lot of parents worked really hard to earn it. How can one man to think he is entitled to it?

What's the rush to judgment here? The story says that he was arrested but not yet charged. Even if charged, isn't he innocent until PROVEN guilty? Yes, if he did commit this crime then he should be made to pay. I too have contributed many hours to these efforts when my kids participated in local sports and it's a true labor of love. I also know that there is a considerable amount of politics in these organizations and sometimes people make spurious charges. I'm waiting for a jury to consider the facts before condemning this person.
I also agree that our horrible economy will cause more people to take desperate criminal actions. The social net has considerably deteriorated and our jails are already at capacity. Before your next vote ask which candidate is the most likely to get this economy moving so that more people have gainful employment.

I can't imagine the embaressment to his family. I hope to goodness they didn't know what he was doing.
As much as I can't condone what he did (there is NO reason to steal, let alone from children) I truly hope this was an act of desperation & not of entitlement!

Being tied to the blocking sled for the August Hell Week sounds like good community service. Unfortunately, he was likely a player's father. So sad to be a part of that situation.

johngriffin, I'm gonna have to agree with you.
This man has not yet been proven guilty, so for all of you judges, juries, and hangmen, why don't you back off a little
