Morning Report: Parolee arrested after deputy finds gun hidden in car
Police and Fire: A parolee was arrested in Camarillo late last night after a Ventura County Sheriff's deputy found a loaded handgun hidden under the hood of his car, authorities said.
Gerardo Rodriguez, 23, was arrested on the 1100 block of E. Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo about 10:21 p.m. Wednesday after a deputy who stopped him for a minor traffic infraction noticed a loaded handgun magazine near the car's center console and later discovered a semi-automatic pistol hidden under the vehicle's engine compartment, said Capt. Tim Hagel of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
Rodriguez was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was being held this morning in lieu of $50,000 bail.
----------
Traffic: At 6:58 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was reporting a two car collision on Highway 101 northbound just south of La Conchita and a battery causing a traffic hazard in a lane of Highway 101 southbound just north of the Santa Clara River Bridge in Ventura.
----------
Weather: Except for some low clouds and fog this morning, mostly sunny conditions with high temperatures in the 60s and 70s are expected today, the National Weather Service reported.

How did the Deputy think of looking under the hood? ....well in any case, I'm glad he did, one less gun in the wrong hands off the streets.

the deputy knew to look under the hood, because parolees have warrantless search conditions...
