Tony with his daughters Samantha & Hannah after completing Ironman Coeur d'Alene in June 2007

Three months ago CHP Officer Tony Pedeferri was critically injured during a routine traffic stop on the 101 Freeway north of Ventura.  Only two months prior to that he was competing in the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii.  The 9-time Ironman triathlete is now learning how to breathe on his own and to live without the use of his body from the chest down.  On Sunday, March 30, a swim-run (aquathon) fundraiser is being held to raise money for the challenges the future has in store for Tony, his wife, and their two young daughters.  All of the proceeds from this event will go to Tony and his family.

This swim-run event will be conducted at the City of Ventura's beautiful new Aquatics Center and Community Park (Kimball and Hwy 126).  The race will consist of an 800-meter swim in the 50-meter Olympic pool followed by a two-lap run around the perimeter of the park (2.8 miles/4.5 km).  There will be individual and relay categories and awards for age division winners.  Please come out and support Officer Pedeferri and get some good exercise at the same time.  Check-in starts at 8:30am and the event begins at 9:30am.  Entry forms can be downloaded at www.rincontriclub.com or online entries can be made at www.active.com (search Ventura For Tony Aquathon).  Please go to www.pedeferri.com and www.pullbackthecovers.blogspot.com for more information on Tony, the accident, and his recovery.
