City seeks public input on vision plan

The public is invited to share ideas for a long-term plan to connect Ventura's downtown to the beach at a design workshop scheduled April 2.

The workshop will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach, 450 E. Harbor Blvd. Free parking is available at the city structure next door.

Attendees will be divided into teams to examine options to cover segments of Highway 101 cutting through downtown Ventura — the physical barriers to realizing the vision — and weigh possible uses for reclaimed land such as parks, transit, retail and housing.

The community workshop is part of a six-month project by the city of Ventura in partnership with the Southern California Association of Governments and consultants from Fregonese Associates and Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc.

The public will also be asked to rank architectural styles, signs, building setbacks, landscaping, transportation facilities and other design elements as part of a visual preference survey.

For information, contact senior planner Alex Herrera at 654-7846 or aherrera@cityofventura.net.

Hmmm. Opening prime beachside real estate for development. Will this connect the beach or create a wall of high-rises?

How can this project, consulting fees, and attitude go on based on the desparate budget cuts being proposed or needed to keep from going seriously broke?
