Medical Board suspends doctor
He was accused of sexual misconduct

A Moorpark emergency room doctor accused of sexual misconduct will be suspended for 30 days and will be placed on probation for seven years, according to a state Medical Board decision that becomes effective at the end of March.
Dr. Shamim Amini, 35, was accused of negligence and sexual misconduct involving pelvic exams of two women in the emergency room at Simi Valley Hospital last year. He allegedly touched the women inappropriately and repeatedly in their pubic areas while not wearing surgical gloves.
He was arrested on suspicion of sexual battery. Last month, Ventura County prosecutors said they would not press criminal charges because of the lack of evidence proving the examinations were sexual in nature and not medical.
The Medical Board had temporarily banned Amini from treating women. Rather than continue state proceedings, Amini agreed to having his license suspended and then be placed on probation.
He is not admitting to the accusations, contending his only mistake may have been not explaining the examinations well enough to the patients, said his lawyer, Henry Fenton of Los Angeles.
"To go through one of these things is horrible, tremendously emotional," said Fenton of the disciplinary process. "He decided to resolve it without making admissions. ... No one wants to be on probation, but the doctor just wanted to get on with his career."
The doctor no longer works at Simi Valley Hospital. Fenton said he does plan to resume his work as an emergency room doctor somewhere.
The 30-day suspension begins March 31.
The probation mandates a chaperone be present whenever a woman is being examined and also prohibits Amini from a solo practice.
He'll have to notify any hospital that employs him of the Medical Board decision.

he should have received more than a 30 day suspension!! Hopefully no hospital will hire him! They would be assuming alot of liability if they do! I don't understand if the medical board can issue punishment why can the district attorney....hmmmmmm...something seems hoky poky! Well I never want to be treated by this doctor!

It is a very good thing that this doctor has been placed on probation, at least, although I think his license should be revoked. No woman should ever have to be subjected to being pruriently poked at or fondled by a male MD. Ugh.
