Helping Hands: March 6

THOUSAND OAKS

PTA earns $3,445 from Vons program

Lang Ranch Elementary School PTA was one of the top 250 earning groups nationally in the Vons 10 percent Back to Schools program. Because it's one of the top 250 groups, Vons has contributed an additional $1,000 for a total of $3,445.

Through the six-week Back to Schools program, the Safeway family of stores has contributed more than $3 million to support the education of youths across the nation.

Lang Ranch PTA plans to use the $3,445 to help fund the physical education program. Because of the funding from the PTA, students at Lang Ranch can participate in physical education three times a week.

CAMARILLO

Rotary completes payment to YMCA

The Breakfast Rotary Club of Camarillo gave the Camarillo Family YMCA $15,000 Feb. 19 as the last payment of the $75,000 the organization donated toward the YMCA's new building at 3111 Village at the Park Drive. The $75,000 donation by the Rotary Club was a significant gift to the YMCA, and subsequently a significant gift to the Camarillo community as more than 5,000 people participate annually in programs at the YMCA.

VENTURA COUNTY

Rabobank supports re-entry program

Rabobank has made a gift of $25,000 to Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association's nurse re-entry program. Livingston's nurse re-entry program trains registered nurses who have been away from the field to return as home health or hospice nurses. Bringing nurses back to practice who have been away because of raising children, relocation, or any other reason helps relieve Ventura County's nursing shortage.

The gift was made in conjunction with Livingston's 60th Anniversary Gala Celebration, which is to be held May 17 at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Simi Valley.

Rabobank's sponsorship was timely. The Weingart Foundation had previously given Livingston a $50,000 gift for the nurse re-entry program; $25,000 was contingent on a match from another organization. Rabobank's sponsorship fulfilled that requirement.
