[Kicker]  Will attend Las Posas Elem School

A group of 12 elementary school students from Japan will attend Las Posas Elementary School in Camarillo for a week. The children, ages 10-12, will get a firsthand exposure to American culture and educational practices, and Las Posas' students will gain insight to Japanese culture.  The group from Japan will use an empty classroom for English lessons, but will spend much of the week immersed in regular 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes.

Principal Julie Antilla-Garza said, "The school community at Las Posas looks forward to hosting the Japanese students for a week. We have a very diverse student population, with over fifteen languages spoken by our students' families. We welcome the opportunity to learn more about our visitors' culture."

The group is from Kagoshima, Japan, nicknamed "Naples of the eastern world." The city of about 600,000 people, famous for its steambaths, or "onsen," is even farther south in latitude than Ensenada.

The students will arrive March 26 and visit a school in Ventura on Friday, March 28. They will attend Las Posas from March 31 to April 4 and return to Japan on April 5th.

Cultural Homestay International (CHI), the sponsoring organization, is looking for volunteer families to host a pair of children while they are here. To volunteer or for more information, call Scott Ingram at 805/ 504-5396.
