Wells Fargo Raises $81,000 for Charity

United Way of Ventura County announced that Wells Fargo raised $81,208 for its organization resulting in a 171 percent increase over last year's fundraising total of $29,941. Marla Vasquez, Wells Fargo senior vice president and Community Banking president for the Pacific Coast region, spearheaded the Ventura County campaign.

Wells Fargo also had a total of 40 leadership donors - those contributing $1,000 or more to the United Way campaign - up from 12 the previous year. Of the 312 donors who contributed to this campaign, a total of 110 new individuals donated to the campaign for the first time.

"All of this is a major accomplishment for Wells Fargo," said United Way Campaign Division Director, Carolyn Swartzel. "They will be a leader among all of the major financial institutions."

Despite a challenging economy, Wells Fargo's charitable donations to non-profit organizations based in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties went up nearly 10 percent compared to grants given by the company the previous year. The company remains one of the largest corporate contributors to non-profit organizations in Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles and west San Bernardino counties, giving more than $10.5 million to organizations last year to support community development, education, human services and cultural/civic projects.
