Man is found with multiple gunshot wounds
A 23-year-old Oxnard man was shot multiple times Monday night and taken by ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center, authorities said.
His wounds were not life-threatening and he was in stable condition late Monday, Oxnard Police Cmdr. Steve Blanchard said.
Responding officers found the man about 9:30 p.m., lying in a driveway in the 300 block of North Juanita Avenue, just north of Colonia Park, Blanchard said.
Police had no description of a suspect as of Monday night.

What? A shooting in La Colonia? - shocking. What is this world coming to? He probably just fell on some bullets.

there's probably no sketch because the "victim" didn't want to talk.

If that incident is what I heard last night, it was five rapid shots with a (relatively) small calibre weapon...probably a hand gun.
You live in the area long enough and you can tell by the sound what type of gun was used.
About a half hour later, I heard more shots...same weapon. So, I suspect we'll be reading about another shooting last night, in tomorrow's edition.

... or next week, right after some news about a farmers market or something. I like how that's front page news, yet another gang involved shooting is hidden on the 6th row down. Huge problem here. This should be front and center. People need it right in front of them to realize its a worthy issue.

MAYBE IF THE PAPER WOULD STOP PUTTING ANYTHING IN THE PAPER IT WOULD DO MORE GOOD. THESE PUNKS LIKE TO SEE THEIR ACTIONS SO THEY CAN BRAG TO THE OTHERS. MAKES THEM MORE MACHO

When will enough be enough for these idiots?
I'm guessing the "victim" is no choir boy...

I read these articles and I usually don't feel the NEED to comment on them, until I see most of the useless (with the exception of a couple) comments from everyone else. I too am glad to hear that the victim is okay, regardless of who he is.
Why is it that people feel such a need to put people down, call them names, "guess" that they know anything about the victims, make sarcastic remarks. Sounds like more than just the gangs needing attention.
Sorry people, things happen. Wake up! We don't live in Fantasyland. Don't like how it's reported? Maybe you can get a job at the Star and do a better job.

BeaHappi, that's the life they live. They don't have the education or support to do the right thing.
beverlychesser, if you notice, the articles like this get the most viewing and the most comments posted. You have to assume that this helps sell the paper so would the Star, or any other form of media, decide to leave it out. I don't watch TV for the good stories, I watch for dumba$$es on channels like TRU tv.

Orkin is to exterminating roaches as Gangs are to exterminating homies. Only Orkin has a better track record.

surfmedic...you're right; but it's tragic that for so many, this is as good as it gets. And for most of them, the only way out of the gang is prison or death.
Sad because this cycle will continue with the children of current gang members, their families, etc.
BeReal - it seems as if part of your comment was directed at my comment, so I'll respond. As you know people are free to comment pretty much whatever they'd like as long as it doesn't violate the rules. Speculations, assumptions, opnions...all part of the freedom to post.
I'd say that if what people post here bothers you then perhaps you should stop reading. Just my two cents...

With several recent articles about arrests and convictions in gang-related violence cases in Oxnard, the police department is quietly building a pretty impressive record for catching the bad guys. To mention just a few, note the recent arrests in a multiple shooting case (one fatality) occuring on north Ventura Road last year, the almost-immediate arrest of the punks who shot another kid in Port Hueneme two weeks ago, and the conviction of the guy in the ice cream vendor robbery in Colonia that included a "gang enhancement" penalty.
It's too bad gang members and other kids willing to shoot at someone else aren't getting the message that they stand a good chance of being caught and convicted for their crimes, even if it doesn't happen immediately. The E.O. Green tragedy will undoubtedly spread the message, but it's a high-profile case, not a routine occurence, as much of the local gang violence is treated.
I've long-felt the Ventura County Star could do the community a great service by publishing an investigative article - maybe even a series - tracking some of the people arrested and convicted of violent crimes (i.e., gang-related murder) locally during the past two decades. Perhaps if more people are aware of the squalid, dangerous and hopeless conditions in which these criminals live, we'd have fewer kids willing to pull the trigger on behalf of a gang. I would bet the Star would find some who express regret and remorse for their murderous acts, which would serve as the most powerful message against the street violence that earned them their life sentence.
Years ago, as the Star's former publisher was commenting on yet-another Oxnard gang killing during a radio preview of the next day's edition - in his usual condescending tone, I should add -- I called in and suggested this idea to him. He laughed if off, replying sarcastically, "Gangbangers don't read newspapers." Well, Mr. Former Publisher, maybe gangbangers don't read your paper (I suspect the Star's circulation decreased noticeably during your tenure), but many parents, other family members, teachers, counselors, etc. do, and I believe such an article could be used effectively to scare a lot of kids away from gang life. Hopefully, the Star's new editorial team will be more pro-active in helping to blunt gang activity in our community.
Meanwhile, good work Oxnard PD, and good luck in catching the coward in this case, too.

BeReal let's be real. People feel the need to put them down and call them names because they are gang members and they are the ones hurting, robbing and stealing from innocent, honest, hard working citizens. And please don't give me any of that "the article doesn't say this was gang related" stuff either.....let's be real. Beahappi there's no need to apologize for saying what you feel, that's free will, say what you feel. See, when you say "this is as good as it gets" for these guys, please understand this is their choice. Free will remember. They choose this life, they love this lifestyle and society embraces it. Just cause you grew up in the ghetto doesn't mean your doomed. Plenty of us have had the internal fortitude to understand free will and make our own decisions and be productive members of society. I guess it's easier to be lazy and not work and just hang out all day planning robberies to make some quick cash to buy beer and dope for the gang parties!

You stold my comment. But again, thats basically the description of 75% of people in Oxnard. Its like saying, hey a white guy stole a car in Ventura...

Yes, it was a gang member. I heard he had a large tatoo of Colonia Chiques on his chest. If I saw a gang member get shot and lying in a driveway I would report nothing. He deserves to meet the grim reaper, instead of continue his reign of violence.

vcsexplorer: Wow, you're scary. You've already determined that this person was a gang member based on something you HEARD. And we all know that everything we hear is true and believable. Right! Also, the simple fact that you are so cold in your heart as to say that if you saw a gang member dying in a driveway, you would let them die. Of course, that's based on your OPINION that they might be a gang member. I hope no one else feels the same way and then mistakes you for some sort of criminal.

I used to ride my custom built "tall bike" everywhere in this town. So much fun it was, people pointed, kids smiled...
Until six months ago while riding home, at ivywood and ventura road a car came from behind and pinched me against the curb knocking me onto the hood. I scrambled to run and was shot 3 times. (2 thru the chest, one thru the arm) I first thought it was a paintball gun, til' my next breath caused a gurgle out of my back. (So many thoughts at that moment...)
Then they just drove away... I ran home and called 911. Huge thanks to the paramedics and med staff.
The bike being something that stood out so much is something I no longer want to be on. Not in this town. Not after I heard the shooters had been bragging about it.
