Love Run to benefit Meals on Wheels

More than 800 runners, walkers and strollers are expected to take part in Senior Concerns' 15th annual Love Run to benefit Meals on Wheels.

The event, which begins in the parking lot next to Brent's Deli, 2801 Townsgate Road, Westlake Village, will take place June 1 and include 5- and 10-kilometer runs as well as a one-mile fun walk/run.

The 5K begins at 8 a.m. and the 10K at 8:50 a.m. The fun run, which begins at 9 a.m., will not be timed, but will offer individual entrants, families and children an opportunity to participate.

In addition to individual registrants, teams of runners can also compete. Awards will be given to teams that raise the most money and have the most members.

Last year, 717 participants helped net $36,000 toward the cost of providing more than 4,000 meals to homebound and dependent seniors.

This year's event will feature medals and awards, a post-race party, free refreshments and vendor display tables.

For a tax-deductible $25 registration fee ($30 on race day), competitive participants will receive mile and final timings, numbered bibs and awards for the top three men and women finishers in 14 age brackets ranging from under 10 to more than 80. All registered participants will receive a T-shirt.

Participants may sign up online at the Love Run Web site, http://www.seniorconcerns.org, or print the registration form and mail it with a check to Senior Concerns, 401 Hodencamp Road, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360. Registration also will be accepted at the event site June 1, starting at 7 a.m.

Information is available by contacting Hazel Welby at 497-0189 or by e-mail to hazel@seniorconcerns.org.
