Watershed district gets $1.2 million grant
The Ventura County Watershed Protection District was recently awarded a $1.2 million grant to build a parking lot, improve trails and clear invasive plant species along the Ventura River in Ojai.
The money was one of many grants the California Resources Agency gave to help river parkway projects around the state.
The funds will be used to build an acre-parking lot near the Highway 150 bridge over the Ventura River.
A trail head with maps and information will be the start of a two-mile horse and hiking trail through land owned by the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy.
Some of the funds will also be used to remove arundo and other invasive plants from the river as part of the Matilija Dam Ecosystem Restoration Project.
Work is not expected to begin for about a year.

Please be advised that the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy may think they own this land but after looking into this extensively with experts and our state and govt laws, they cannot own what is commonly know as a "RIVER BOTTOM". I'd like to know how they managed to steal grant money for their biddings. I consider these people's efforts to control what isn't theirs comical. Go ahead and make your parking lots and trail heads while pulling out plants you think shouldn't be there (!?!?!?!) but keep out of my way when I want to enjoy this area with my dogs. You have no rights over me and the RIVER BOTTOM!
