Spike TV takes on 'Factory'

Tune in

"Factory": The comedy premieres at 10 tonight on Spike TV.

After giving up on scripted dramas in favor of reality shows, despite the success of last summer's "The Kill Point" with its core audience, Spike TV ventures into comedy with "Factory," a semi-improvised comedy created by Mitch Rouse ("Strangers with Candy," "According to Jim").

It's a mixed bag of un-PC attempts at blue-collar humor as four guys yak and try to avoid doing their jobs. Rouse plays Gary, second fiddle to Smitty (David Pasquesi), a guy who's snubbed by his wife and lusting after her "stepdad's sister's daughter," who's living with them. Chase (Michael Coleman) fears getting his heart broken, while overweight Gus (Jay Leggett) can't bring himself to marry his girlfriend of 12 years.

"Factory" plays a little like a live-action, PG-13-rated "Flintstones" episode set in a factory where machines are known to kill their operators. Characters are as recognizable and redundant as the show's situations, making it difficult to work up much enthusiasm for a series that feels like something we've seen too many times before.
