The California Allocation Board awarded nearly $412 million in construction grants to 109 schools throughout the state, including several in Ventura County, officials said Friday.
The four local schools — Madrona in Thousand Oaks, Ramona in Oxnard, Fillmore High and Santa Paula High — will receive a combined $2.3 million.
More than half of the construction grants were allocated from funds of Proposition 1D, which was approved by state voters in 2006. The funds will help relieve overcrowding at some schools by replacing portable classrooms with permanent facilities.
The funding will also help incorporate green elements at some schools, including cool roofs that reduce heat absorption, high-efficiency water fixtures with electronic sensors, higher ceilings to increase the use of natural daylight, and air filters and ventilation ducts that reduce airborne contaminants.
