Agoura Hills' expanded door-to-door Dial-a-Ride service will shift into high gear Tuesday, when the city adds new locations to the transportation program.
The additional sites are part of a pilot program that will run through the summer, said Meredith Petit, city recreation supervisor.
Petit said passengers are invited to make suggestions and comments. The new locations will be permanently incorporated if enough riders use the system.
Passengers will ride in the city's new fleet of 2008 Chevy Uplander vans, equipped with state-of-the-art safety and comfort features.
Expanded service in the Conejo Valley will include The Oaks mall, Janss Marketplace, Westlake Promenade, Costco, Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and for seniors, Goebel Senior Center, Senior Concerns and various medical facilities.
"Our residents who don't drive or wish to cut down on driving don't have to stay home this summer. They now have Dial-a-Ride to take them to the malls and movies," said Petit.
With municipal budgets tightening statewide, many cities have had to eliminate their Dial-a-Ride programs, Petit said.
In Agoura Hills, Dial-a-Ride is open to all residents. Children 10 and older may ride alone, and babies may ride in their own car seats. The Dial-a-Ride vans have low floors for easy boarding, and two of the vehicles are wheelchair accessible with ramps.
Reservations are requested a day in advance, but vans will pick up "on a moment's notice, if available," Petit said.
One-way trip fare is $1 within city limits and $2 for locations outside city boundaries. Monday through Saturday, the expanded schedule pick-up times are approximately 9 and 11 a.m. and 1, 3 and 5 p.m., with returns on the half hour of these times.
To schedule a ride, call Dial-a-Ride at 818-707-2005.
To comment or obtain more information on the expanded service program, call the city's Department of Community Services at 818-597-7367.
The city's Dial-a-Ride program transported nearly 40,000 passengers during the 2006-07 fiscal year, she said.
