Morning Report: 1 found dead near scene of house fire in Lockwood Valley
Police and Fire: One person was found dead this morning near the scene of a house fire in Lockwood Valley, authorities said.
The fire was reported at 5:57 a.m. in a home near the intersection of Mountain Lilac Trail and Old Adams Trail in the northern reaches of Ventura County.
Firefighters from the Kern County, Ventura County and Los Angeles County fire deparments responded to the blaze in the remote community about 86 miles from the Ventura County seat.
Kern County firefighters arrived on scene first and found a two-story home in flames, said Bill Nash, a spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department. Fire covered about 70 percent of the home.
Firefighters had the flames knocked down by about 8 a.m. The building was completely destroyed, Nash said.
One person was found dead near the scene of the fire, he said. It was not immediately clear if the person died in the fire.
As of 8:50 a.m., firefighters were working their way through the remnants of the home, investigating and making sure the blaze is completely out.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is also investigating the incident.

Traffic: At 6:48 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was reporting a traffic hazard on the Rose Avenue offramp from Highway 101 northboud in Oxnard.

Weather: Mostly sunny conditions are expected today after morning clouds and fog, the National Weather Service reported.
High temperatures are expected to range from the 60s at county beaches to the 80s and lower 90s in inland valleys.
