Simi Valley's Matt Hoffenberg fired a final-round 4-under-par 68 to win the 93rd annual Southwestern Amateur Championship, held June 10-13 at the Twin Warriors Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.

Hoffenberg, a sophomore at San Diego State, overcame a three-shot deficit to finish with a combined 5-under 283 (71-74-70-68), edging Pepperdine graduate Jesse Barnsley by one stroke.

Hoffenberg was fifth heading into the final round. After posting his 68, he had to nervously wait to see if his 5-under total would hold up. Barnsley barely missed a birdie putt on the final hole that would have forced a playoff.
